4. Mixing Audio for Effect

How do you make a Audio/visual story book or advertisement?

What do you look for in a good story?

How do you make an interesting commercial for a product?

You will need a USB for this Task:

1.  Search for 10 sound effects of your choice and save onto your USB into one folder. (Remember to 'house keep' your files so that the program you are using knows where to find the files.)
Here is another source of good sounds: Sound Bible

2. Using Garageband or Audacity, create a 1 minute Radio play or advertisement for a product (imaginary or real) using your selected samples. You will need to write your own script based on the samples collected, record the voice over, add character voices, add special effects mix, and edit. Save your work onto a USB.

3. Experiment with volume mixing and audio effects (Fx), panning, volume, reverb (echo), delay. (Take a screen shot of your arrangement to post to your blog.)

4. 'Master' your arrangement & share your Radio Play as an mp3.

5. Search for 5-10 pictures that will support your Radio play or advertisement to make a short 10 picture story. Import these into iMovie or movie maker along with your final bounce of your Radio Play.

6. Arrange the pictures to suit the audio. Add a title page, and end credits or insert them into the film.

7. Share your Movie as a 'small movie' file. Upload to your e-portfolio directly, or upload to a video hosting website and embed into your e-portfolio using an appropriate heading.

8. Take 3-4 screen shots of your arrangements from the audio and video projects you have been working on and post them to your blog.

9. Along with the screen shots, write a recount of the process for this task. Use web links where you can.
What did you do?
How did you do it?
What equipment, programs and sites did you use?
Who did you work with?

10. Post a self assessment of this audio task onto your e-portfolio. Give yourself a rating out of 5 for each of the following criteria and describe why you have awarded that mark to yourself.

a) Effort                                                                /5 why?
b) Development of audio skills and knowledge   /5 why?
c) Ability to work with others                              /5 why?
d) Ability to problem solve                                  /5 why?
e) Self organisation                                              /5 why?

11. On your e-portfolio, complete your own W.O.W statement for this activity:
      What you have done well...
Other things to include for next time...
      Where to from here.....

12. Post a link to your movie on the class discussion forum., View another groups work and reply with the an evaluation of their work by responding to the following prompts:
I like...
I wonder...
May I suggest...
